Some people think that the Bush Depression of 2007 was the first such Depression but it is only the latest in a long line of economic crises that happen as a result of speculation which could be stopped through regulation. Yet during these economic catastrophes great fortunes are expanded at the expense of the poor and middle classes. There is an old saying that "the best time to buy land is when there is blood in the streets". This is an understanding that is not forgotten by the wealthy who are not interested in the wellbeing of others.
